Using the Family Report Template

The Family Report Template is an MS Word document formatted for one-page biographical sketches, including 1-2 graphics, and end notes. The pages are set for printing landscape, double-sided, with “facing pages” margins and header titles. The extended margins on the right of even-numbered pages and on the left of odd-numbered pages provides normal viewable margins if the report is printed and bound.

An end notes section is inserted after each bio page so that short-form reference citations can be viewed while reading the report, without the need to refer to long-form citations in the bibliography section at the end.

The font face used is Book Antiqua – the Heading 1 style is 11.5 point bold, Normal style is 10.5 point. and the end notes are 10 point. The template includes a table of contents that is updated each time Heading 1 text is added or updated.

The bio pages are designed for a one-page biographical sketch of each parent pair as well as a list of the pair’s children and their basic biographical information. Adding an end note to any section on the page creates a corresponding entry on the pair’s end note page where you can fill in the appropriate short-form citation.

Each bio page includes one graphic object place-holder with a figure number, caption and end note reference. Additional graphics can be easily added by copy/pasting the frame object and filling it in with a new graphic and caption.

You can add any additional parent pairs to your report by inserting the New Profile Page Template just before the Acknowledgments sections of the report template. In MS Word, this is done by clicking Insert > Object > Text from File and then selecting the downloaded New Profile Page Template from your computer (or write a macro to insert the template).

Since each parent pair is given only one page of space in the template, you may wish to add appendices to cover subjects that deserve exploration in greater depth. To create an appendix section for later incorporation to your report, you can use this template.
